On January 2, 2002, Jim Kell bought the Printing Division of TechBooks, renaming it back to York Graphic Services Co. Let’s take a look back to some of the changes over this decade.
When Jim became the owner, YGS occupied most of the downstairs. TechBooks occupied the lobby, main hallway and entire upstairs. Currently, Jim owns the building and Techbooks no longer occupies any space.
On January 2, 2002, YGS started with 62 total associates. As of December 31, 2011, our current number of associates is 144. During those ten years, 474 associates were hired. In 2002, males outnumbered females 2.5 to 1; today it is a 1 to 1 ratio. This change reflects the shift from a manufacturing environment to our current diverse Total Solutions focus.
March 2002 – The first investment of $700,000 was in prepress technology. This purchase included computer to plate technology, prinergy and digital proofing.
September 2002 – Mailing services became an offering to our clientele.
December 2004 – Our first digital press was purchased (Ryobi XDI) thereby being the beginning of our Digital Division.
Spring 2005 – A whole lot of moving going on at YGS…walls being torn down, areas opened up, all print manufacturing areas were affected in preparation for a big year.
Spring 2005 – The Komori six-color press was installed with the first sheets coming off the press on August 3, 2005.
August 2005 – The Creative Division was born with a single employee; initially known as YPS (York Production Services.)
September 2005 – A small printing company named Colorgraphics was purchased. This group eventually moved to the current plant and enhanced the Digital Division.
May 2006 – Originally known as Advertising Sales, also starting with a single employee, this time period was the beginning of our current Media Sales Division.
August 2007 – The Fulfillment Division was launched. Originally located off site, this segment of YGS was relocated to 3650 in the summer of 2009.
September 2007 – Our rebranding effort that became…The YGS Group.
September 7, 2007 – Reprint Management Services (RMS), a then client of YGS, was purchased. The Lancaster operation moved to York in July 2009.

Congratulations to all who have been a part of these milestone moments as we continue to enhance, shape and develop our products and services all in a continuing effort to give our clients a wonderful YGS experience.
