In Her Words:

I focused on fine arts in high school, but when I started looking at colleges, I knew being a fine artist would be a struggle because there often isn’t the structure in the field that I knew I would need in my future job. My high school art teachers suggested I look into graphic design, and I actually ended up becoming really passionate about it.

My professor at Millersville is the liaison for internships in the interactive and graphic design program and told me about the internship here at The YGS Group. Seeking out internships was easier once I set up a website for myself. There’s a level of professionalism that comes with putting all of your best work online and being able to discuss the thought process behind each project. It also helps to use free mockups so you can add context to your work, rather than just showing screenshots of final files. Having a network of people in the design community to support your work really helped give me the motivation to move forward, and I really appreciate the connections I’ve made with my classmates and professors in the Millersville design department, the professionals in AIGA Central PA, and everyone else who has helped me along the way.

During the last semester, I found an interest in publication design. I’m really excited to learn as much as I possibly can about the publication production process. Otherwise, I’m interested in working on anything anyone sends my way! My two internships this summer are my first internship experiences, and I am looking to get as much out of them as I can. I’m excited to just learn what it’s like to be in the field rather than being in a classroom setting.
